Great expectations

In Paris on December 10, 1948, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, setting the standard for achievements for all humans, everywhere.
This declaration gives ‘recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world…’ [The Universal Declaration of Human Rights]

Since this declaration, the world has shifted many times. Our human family has yet to fulfil its obligations to care about and protect each other. However, foundations, charities, individuals and various organisations have worked for years to meet the expectations of our social contract.

In 1989, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) set out the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of children. The nations which have signed and ratified the convention (all nations, except the United States and Somalia) are required to report to the UNCRC committee periodically and agree to be bound to the convention by international law.

‘The four core principles of the Convention are non-discrimination; devotion to the best interests of the child; the right to life, survival and development; and respect for the views of the child. Every right spelt out in the CRC is inherent to the human dignity and harmonious development of every child.’ [UNCRC]

That the world requires such conventions to protect the human family is a sad reality. That there are foundations and organisations that work to support and uphold the values that make for a peaceful and just society is the relief.

Okami Media supports the goals of Bright Kids Charity to upholds the values set out in the UN conventions on human and children’s rights by supporting children who are growing up in orphanages and those who are from underprivileged circumstances.

Pass it On

Bright Kids Charity is committed to providing high-quality education and financial aid for medical care to children who might otherwise not have access to such basic rights. The charity, which shows foresight and commitment to real-world issues, provides children with an education in computing and technology, among other areas, so that their future can be bright. They help raise funds for medical treatments and other healthcare services for the children they support.
Rather than a sole focus on academia, the charity provides children with opportunities for enrichment, which helps develop children’s social skills and interpersonal development. Such basic skills are a necessity for becoming an active contributing member of society.
The philanthropic attitude of those who work with Bright Kids Charity means that rather than providing band-aids, the workers aim to teach the children how they can thrive as adults.
Okami Media believes in passing on the benefits of privilege to those who are less fortunate. Through empowering others, we create a society that is respectful and kind. We develop a kinship with all humans, regardless of the circumstances that separate us. Through social interaction that is selfless, we remove a sense of ‘other’ and embrace a sense of ‘us’.

Life Lessons

For many children growing up in difficult circumstances, they have additional needs that cannot be easily met. Without a secure family unit and adult guidance, children require more from their role models. For children to emulate the qualities that matter most in a harmonious and functional society they must be given access to the development of emotional intelligence. These life lessons are taught through interactions with community leaders and skilled artisans who generously share their time and knowledge with the most vulnerable in our society. By providing opportunities for children to learn art, languages, sports, and other social activities, these children are accessing and developing the high-level skills needed to participate in society, secure a job in adulthood and end a cycle of poverty and deprivation.
Okami Media offers donations of money and resources to help support the work of Bright Kids Charity.

Creating Opportunity

While education is the cornerstone of a bright future, without the basic necessities of life it means little. Bright Kids Charity works hard to provide aid for wellbeing services, clothing, healthcare, and basic necessities to the orphanages and underprivileged children it supports.
Okami Media is committed to funding much of the needs of Bright Kids Charity to ensure that adequate medicine, warm, clean and fitting clothing, school supplies and other basic needs can be provided in the orphanages supported by the charity.
Donations of clothing, money, time and other resources all count toward improving the future for Bright Kids recipients. Volunteers who give of their time and resources to share their experience with children living in orphanages have a profound effect on the lives of the children they meet. For such co-ordinated programs to operate efficiently, they need the professional support of organizations such as Bright Kids, which means the backing of business and individuals who care. Creating opportunities for advancement means moving closer to our overall goal of equal rights for all humanity.
